How Much Time Does It Take to Run a Car Wash?

Owning and operating a self-service automatic car wash may seem like a dream come true. However, although your car wash won’t require you to spend every hour of the day at your business, you will still have to invest at least some of your time into making repairs and doing simple maintenance. In fact, you may spend more time than you think, taking care of the place, fixing and ordering pump parts, and doing the books. So, how much time does it take to run a car wash?

Daily Maintenance

In order to keep your place attractive to customers, you need to clean and restock it daily. If you allow the car wash to get dirty to the point that trash cans overflow and litter accumulates, customers will not be enticed to wash their cars at your facility. In addition to regularly cleaning the car wash, you will also need to stock coin machines and other vending machines on the grounds. If customers cannot exchange money for the proper denominations, they may not be able to purchase supplies and services from you. You should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours each day of the week on cleaning and maintenance tasks, for a business with 4 stalls.

Ongoing Maintenance

Some things need to be done at regular intervals. Replacing filters and changing the oil in your pumps should be done a few times a year. This is also a good time to inspect your equipment and order any pump parts or other supplies you might need in the near future.

If you plan out your daily and ongoing maintenance in advance, you will be able to get all of the work done without having to devote too much time to your car wash. Your customers will appreciate the clean, well-run car wash, making them more likely to return.
